Specialized Tarmac Elite, 2012
Retail Price / Prix de Détail: $2580 + taxes
Exceptional Features:
- The general quality of this new Tarmac Elite frameset is, as per usual for a Specialized bicycle, extremely notable for the price-point. Specifically speaking in this case, the new Elite and Comp models have features from the recent SL2 and SL3 Tarmac generations, AND they now have an ‘OSBB’ bottom-braket. Ask us about this if you don’t know what it is. The third and forth images at the top of this page feature a new ‘OSBB’ FSA Gossamer crankset; we want to bring attention to this because OSBB is a very logical step forward in the manufacturing of carbon fiber bicycle frames and is still, for the most part, a feature that’s only available on “hight-end” bikes.
- The “FACT” full-carbon fork with tapered steerer is light, stiff and compliant; it’s unusual for bike companies to spec a full-carbon fork at this price-point because most people wouldn’t know to think of what the steer-tube is made of… ask us if you don’t! Everyone should know how their bicycle is built.
- Shimano 105 groupset on a frame of this quality is an amazing value!
- Fulcrum Racing 6 wheelset is light and VERY solid; again, reliable wheels are an exceptional value at this price-point (they’re attractive too!)
- Body Geometry Romin carbon-reinforced saddle is the most exciting new saddle in the catalog; light, comfortable, clean-looking.
